a weekend at the coast

One of the few last weekends curtip got to come out to the coast which also happened to be the US vs. Ghana game (super depressing right??). So after a few beers at the...uh... local "pub" a picnic at the beach was in order as it was a rare 80 degree day. We also partook in hiking along the coast trails, beach beer, a visit to the gardens, an early morning trip to tidepool, french toast, etc. etc. Awesomeness indeed.

Sitka spruce trees are the best

Early morning South Cove

Kelp for me

Limpet for Annie (by the way, we found a number of your friends, certainly not all of them were there though )

Sunflower star because they are pretty neat (and more kelp for me)

Urchins!

Tidepooling in chacos. no big deal.

Self portrait

We found a massive amount of squid eggs washed up on the beach, potentially rumored to be Humboldt squid? but that's debatable.

It was mysterious, but pretty cool

And the perfect opportunity to creep on a certain someone whilst on the phone.

grads & pears

A pear for Hillary of is there life on mars. A dear old friend like her needs a crafty pear to help with projects aplenty, to remember hillarious summer memories like falling in the hammock on hard apples, dogs with bad fruit additions and permanent tan lines from the trusty red lifeguarding suits. Thinking about it 1) reminds me about how pale I've been since I've moved to the coast, 2) how badly I could go for a fresh off the tree pear, 3) how much I miss that lady!

This was from that awesome heather baily pattern

Curti P is donezo!! wooooo! so is that skirt I started on eons ago... also, note the brazil jersey. World Cup anyone?? He even included a plug for his favorite team in the "what I've done and will be doing/thank you they read aloud when they called him up.

The rescue charlie brown lei complements of a Monday graduation. He said he still really liked it though.

Successful creep on Kaleo!! Congrats to you too!

The unit

My prize for being the supportive girlfriend for the five years: a beau and a token of gratitude.

Human Phys is not the easiest of majors and pretty competitive with the intensity of pre-med kids. It called for lots of food, beer, friends & family to celebrate. He'll be continuing with prosthetics and orthotics somewhere much warmer come August. Congrats!!

clouds

A few weeks ago I went up to portland with my mom and curti-p. As much as I love the coast, I have to escape pretty frequently as the seasons typically consist of:
-cold-ish & wet (November to March)
-less cold & wet (April to June)
-warmish & foggy (June to August)
-warmish & sunny (August to October)

Seriously though we rarely see 80˚ around here & consequently I wind up wearing my trusty black fleece year round. With that said it was a huge huge gift to be sleeveless in portland walking around washington park with some cool kids followed by an afternoon happy hour at the kennedy school patio. Apparently Jack Mcbrayer's cousin was our waiter and he let us know that Jack is a huge fake after mentioning his special appearance at the conan show in Eugene. Oddly enough this guy was as much of a creeper as Kenneth the page. In the end I savored the sunny patio sunburn, pint of ruby & good conversation. The sun quickly left and the drive home was filled with good cloud photography.

which brings me to this:

A murder of shorebirds

This comes from the mid October cookie experiment with Annie and Kenta...

Question: Do shorebirds like chips ahoy as much as Kenta does?
Methods: Creep at the birds and present subjects with a cookie...
Result: Shore birds do not like chips ahoy
Discussion: Perhaps they do not provide sufficient nutrition to better their fitness or they have not developed the taste yet for delicious chips ahoy cookies.
Conclusion: Don't waste cookies on shore birds. They will only give you the cold shoulder and a soggy sandy cookie.
